Liz Penta began working at the legendary New York rock club CBGB’s in 1990. With a background in fine art, she helped curate exhibits at CB's 313 Gallery and before long she was booking music in the Gallery as well. In contrast to its parent rock club next door, CB's Gallery was well lit, clean and spacious with a live room sound. Under Liz's watch it became a home for the downtown music scene, performance art, singer-songwriters, and experimental music. In 1994 she left CBs to go on the road with the then fledgling band, Medeski Martin & Wood. In 1996 she formed Emcee Artist Management setting up shop in Tribeca.
